Endocrine class was very interesting today. For those who don't know what the endocrine system is, it is the release, regulation and actions of hormones that use blood as its transport system. A major source of hormone release and regulation is in the pituitary gland located almost directly behind the bridge of your nose, between your ears, and up just a tad. When this pituitary gland has tumor growth, then this gland can overproduce hormones, causing many issues throughout the body. The visiting doctor explained to us how these tumors are removed. The surgery which is called a transsphenoidal surgery takes place by going up THROUGH THE NOSE. This procedure is demonstrated in the following picture:

So for all those kids & adults out there who pick their nose, watch out, if you navigate far enough, you might poke your brain.
